RECOMMENDED FOR:

WHY STUDY AVIATION ENGLISH IN HLA?

• We based the language proficiency on the International Civil Aviation Organization’s language proficiency. 
• This course is designed to help pilots and air traffic controllers achieve and maintain operational level 4 as outlined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
• HLA developed classes specifically for cabin crew who need to use English every day at work and for people who are training to become cabin crew.

LEARNING GOALS:

• To communicate clearly, directly, and with authority but also politely, even when dealing with different situations as cabin crew or pilots. 
• To avoid confusion over numbers, use of non-standard phraseology, and misunderstandings over technical vocabulary and jargon. 
• To be knowledgeable on the terms related to aircraft performance, navigation, weather, and various aviation systems and instruments. 
• To enhance English language proficiency in four macro skills and the usage of English in both oral and written communication.

Class structure per day: 4 one to one classes, 4 group classes and 1 self-study class (Essay Writing/ Music Class)

Course Highlights:

A. Career-focused

• Career English has its own language, structure, and conventions. It is part technical, part academic, and part every day. It has a wide variety of slang, acronyms, and colloquialisms that those outside the profession find incomprehensible. So classes are designed to allow students to have an immersive educational experience that incorporates English into their chosen career studies.

B. Integrated Approach

• Learning all the major skills with different teachers who are highly trained and with in-depth knowledge of the curriculum

C. Learner-centered

• Classes are focused on developing students’ macro and micro skills plus the usage of English in a classroom setting
• Teachers closely monitor students’ progress through feedback

D. Outcome Based Education

• Focuses on students’ evaluation to monitor progress and feedback
• Daily and weekly feedback from the teachers is done to inform students’ achievement and things that need improvements
• Special recognition and awarding of certificates at the end of the course

Course Design:

1	One to One (1:1)	Career Focus	This class provides an opportunity for students to put theoretical knowledge to practical use using the English language effectively. It will give students the language they need to work, study, and collaborate in an English-speaking environment.
2	One to One (1:1)	General Skills	An integrated class (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) designed to provide students with opportunities to interact with other students, learn together, and value each differences and uniqueness. Moreover, students are taught everyday English expressions and proper usage of English as well as correct pronunciation through the assistance of our ever-dynamic and highly-trained teachers.
3	One to One (1:1)	Writing	This hones learners’ ability to write using the appropriate aviation terminologies whether writing a report, essay, or paragraph.
4	Group class (GC)	Listening	This class aids students in improving their ability to listen and interpret Air Traffic Control (ATC) calls Automatic Terminal Information Service
5	One to One (1:1)	Reading	This class is designed to guide students on how to decipher aviation jargon, covers a broad spectrum of reading passages including aerodynamic theory and flying basics, and read about different weather types and know how to navigate them
6	Group Class (GC)	Pronunciation	Aviation English has different pronunciations in letters and numbers. In this class, students will be taught how to properly enunciate letters and numbers as well as the terminologies used in this profession.
7	Group class (GC)	Speaking	This class aims to explore speaking strategies used by aviation students that may effectively work for their speaking for actual communication. Interview questions were drawn from effective speaking strategies guidelines in accordance with specific themes relating to the aviation industry.
8	Group class (GC)	Vocabulary	It covers the terminologies, phraseology, and jargon used in aviation that helps improve students’ vocabulary range and lexical resources.
9	Self-study	Essay Writing or Music Class	It offers sufficient time to complete tasks guided by a teacher to monitor student’s work and performance. Students can participate in music classes to learn more vocabulary and how to use words and relieve stress after class.

Note: 1:1 classes are flexible which means that students can have 2 career focus 1:1 classes or 2 speaking 1:1 classes. (applicable to any 1:1 subject). Less than 3 enrollees will join General English group class.
